A BIT ABOUT MUSIC THERAPY
“Music therapy is a research-based practice and profession in which music is used to actively support people as they strive to improve their health, functioning and wellbeing” (adapted from The Australian Music Therapy Association, 2012). It is a diverse practice that includes many areas of health and wellbeing across different populations and contexts.
Registered Music Therapists (RMTs) have completed a specialised University degree and belong to the Australian Music Therapy Association, which is part of the Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA). Depending on their context, RMTs can take many different approaches in their work, and will often work flexibly with different methods to maximise health outcomes.
The Australian Music Therapy association is a great resource for obtaining further information about music therapy

WHAT I OFFER
At Melodic Fox, I offer individual music therapy to children, adults, and families, with a focus on mental health and wellbeing outcomes.
I have a particular interest is supporting the needs of neurodivergent people, and work in a neurodiversity-affirming way to honour the natural diversity in human nervous systems and their range of needs.
Sessions can address a variety of areas including emotional regulation, exploring identity and self-concept, and building core relational areas of engagement and joint attention.
The exact focus of the sessions is determined collaboratively with families or young people. Sessions can include: improvisation, song creation, singing, playlist creation, lyric analysis, musical biography and music listening, as well as therapeutic instrumental tuition. I am a trained violinist with a special interest in therapeutic violin tuition.
Sessions are held at the Montmorency studio, or as home visits, as well as online.
At Melodic Fox, I collaborate with Psychologists, Social Workers, Speech Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists to bring a multi-disciplinary approach to care.
